SIOUXLAND COUNCIL ON CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT
SCCAN has been active for decades however SHIP recently became the coordinator for SCCAN January 1, 2018.
The mission of the Siouxland Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (SCCAN) is to assess, evaluate, advocate and lend support to comprehensive and coordinated plans, projects, and resources designed for prevention of child abuse and neglect; and to assist in child development and effective parenting.
Specific goals and activities are targeted at:
- Enhancing the quality of life for children and families.
- Increasing the public’s awareness of child abuse and neglect issues and ways to prevent abuse and neglect.
- Serving as a resource for information on child abuse and neglect issues.
- Supporting Prevent Child Abuse Iowa in their endeavors.
SCCAN serves as a central point of contact for agencies that deal with child abuse and neglect issues in order to accomplish the above goals and serves as a sounding board in the community to listen to identified gaps in services and needs and responds accordingly. SCCAN meets quarterly with the Executive Council handling the day-to-day activities between meetings. Quarterly meetings provide networking opportunities as well as updates on this grant. Additionally, members share events and issues of concern for discussion. The Council then takes appropriate action and plans accordingly. Annually, the Council reviews its mission and goals in order to remain relevant and current in its goals and outcomes. SCCAN is an open meeting and is continually inviting multiple individuals and agencies to participate in the collaborative effort of keeping our community and children healthy and safe.
